QuoteReplyTopic: Proposed name for non-Dardic Indo-Aryan languages Posted: 02-May-2019 at 21:16
There is a clear consensus that non-Sanskrit based Indo-Aryan
languages that are siblings to Sanskrit are their own subbranch within
Indo-Aryan. These are known as the Dardic languages.
But
this leaves Sanskrit based languages with no name. Since they descend
from Vedic Sanskrit, should an appropriate term for them be Vedic languages? Languages such as Sindhi, Punjabi, Nepali, Hindustani etc.
I dont really see that it is a major worry, it seems trivial to me (no offense meant), except that i didn't know Dardic was a branch within Indo-Aryan separate from the "Vedic" ones. Actually i wonder if the Dardic didn't possibly stem from Vedic (excuse my ignorance if linguistic evidence is known it didn't)? Sounds like if it is within Indo-Aryan then it did come from Vedic which is earliest parent of Indo-Aryan. Maybe just Indic/Indian as opposed to Kashmiri/Pakistani/Afghan (Dardic/Kati/Kalash/Kafir, Pushtun). You could argue Pathan/Pushtu is within Iranic so what is the distinct name for non-Afghan Iranian languages? (Persian? Iranian? Avestan?) Is Dardic same age as or older or later than Indic and Iranic branches? You could probably just coin your own name, since many books have different names for races/languages given by different scholars. Uless you are seeking correct scientific taxa nomenclature for groups/branches universal acceptance of all experts like the scientific zoological names.

NZ's mandatory fluoridation is not fair because it only forces it on the disadvantaged/some and not on the advantaged/everyone.
^^ To answer your question, Dardic languages are akin to Vedic Sanskrit within Indo-Aryan. That's why I propose naming them Vedic languages. Was just wondering other peoples opinions on them.
