Topic: current affairs Posted: 07-Jul-2006 at 19:39 |
I would like to request from the Forum Administration that the rules for Current Affairs posting be slightly modified so that the section is visible to all, but only those with more than 100 posts should be able to participate.
Would that be acceptable?

That's not a good idea because the user would then rapidly spam posts in order to get himself into the Current Affairs forum if he sees something that "inflames" his interest.
The whole idea is that AE should focus on history and not Current Affairs.

The problem is that I cannot link my posts in Current Affiars to outside the forum. And I think there were many interesting discussions there that desrve to be seen by the outside world. Why not raise the threshold to 500 then, but leave it open? Besides if Current Affairs can motivate and inflame users to participate in the Historical section of the forum, I think this would be good for the forum.

I know what you mean, but I would rather have outside members join in order to take part in history-related discussions, rather than in politics or current affiars. The idea behind the post-count rule is to provide members with a place to discuss current affairs while not promoting that section to new membership.

I think current affairs is a very useful section of the forum, it binds the history and translates historical momentums into visible truths of today. I feel that it is very much impossible for the serious contributor to discuss current affairs without resorting to a historical analysis. I dont really see it as a distraction from history, if you know what i mean.
I think that it is important to install measures to keep in check prospective flamers and mindless antagonists.
Overall i think that the section is in pretty good shape.

I agree with malizai. The current affairs today were determined by past event. To restrict current affairs to new comers on this forum is like say you cant have a piece of the pie, but not a piece of another pie.

I would probably make the rules for the current affairs rules more strict instead to prevent flamers and spammers.
