I would need some examples of wars that were won with a single battle. An example like Stalingrad would surely not do where a hundred battles were fought just to get to that one battle.
More in the lines of two armies meeting, one crushes the other and already after that single fight, the loser sees himself so overpowered by the adversaries military supremacy or then that the loser was so beaten militarily that another battle was out of question. Immideate surrender by the losing country, tribe or whatever entity it was.

History's shortest war comes to mind: I believe that it was England vs Zanzibar on August 27, 1896. The whole war lasted 45 minutes. After the death of the sultan, one of the contenders assemebled a small army and took power. The British supported another contender, so they landed marines and their warships started shelling the island. After only 45 minutes, the would-be sultan recognized that the situation was hopeless and surrendered.

What is history but a fable agreed upon?

Many of the wars in ancient Greece were one battle affairs over relatively minor border issues.

I believe that Desert Storm lasted only 100 hours. Pretty short.

Cunaxa is a good one. Interesting in that the "victors" melted away after their win simply because Cyrus the younger was killed. In this case they lost the war on the same day they won the only real battle of the campaign.

I hope someone didn't already put this, but one of my favorite wars, was a one battle war, Where William I of Normandy landed at Hastings and destroyed the bulk of the english army at the Battle of Hastings. Afterwards the Godwinsons just gave up. This happened in 1066.

The Kettle War of 8 October 1784 between the Netherlands and Austria. The Dutch had closed the estuary of the river Scheldt for all ships from the Southern Netherlands (owned by Austria). Austria wanted to open the Scheldt again and sent a small navy, expecting the Dutch wouldn't dare to fight back. Only one shot was fired, which hit a kettle on board of an Austrian ship, which immediately surrendered.

Another victimless war was between the Netherlands and the Isles of Scilly, that lasted no less than 335 years: http://scillynews.severecci.net/?p=11138

Well...I would have liked to provide some examples myself, except that my military studies have been colored by an opinion that the best-fought wars are the ones that were won without any battles at all...
