I noticed a few people mentioned Cubase... I'm actually thinking of buying Cubase sometime this week.... does anyone recommend it or have any criticisms?

....Thank you very much Malizai!!!.....its only using ready-made samples though, there is no 'real' musical talent involved as such, but it does take a bit of effort to construct a tune and make it 'sound' as near as damn it to a 'proper' recording....i had many hours of fun using the Ejay product, i still dip into it now, but only on the rare occasion.... i have fond memories of being part of the Ejay music forums between 2000 and 2003, it was a good experience, and much fun was had by all, sadly, the forum has taken a bit of a nosedive since the newer Ejay products have failed to live up to expectations, and the fact that a user can no longer upload their tunes to the site to be listened to and 'judged'!!!....'The Horror' was in part, inspired by the film Apocalypse Now...and i am glad you mentioned Future Sound of London!!!! , i used to enjoy much of their work, i had a kind of collection of songs on CD, ones that i had gathered from various sources but alas, the CD has gone walkabout.....
..good luck with finding your music, by all means, please give me a shout, PM, or otherwise, if you manage to retrieve your songs, as i would love to hear what you made...
...kind regards...AoO...

AOA
Really impressed, reminds me of some of the bleak works of FSOL.
'The Horror' is fantastic. The desolation, the gloom is complete. I did a brooding theme on Orion Platinum(Cubase is worse than Autocad ), took me ages, and was no way as near as good as that piece. Sadly I got hit by a virus two months ago, and to backup uninstalled a whole host of stuff that included the Vsti-pugins(!!!!), now nothing will playback. After listening to that, i think i am going to find them, rework something and report back sometime.
Reminds of me of this work, I hope you like it:

...i can make a fair amount of noise on the electric guitar in a rock/thrash/metal way..pretty much all of Black Sabbath's repertoire..!!!!..very basic, bar chords and all that stuff...my son likes it so i have at least an audience of one!!!! ...
..interesting to note some of us here are into using pc software for making music at home...i had Cubase once but it was far too technical for my simple mind, mainly because i used to use the Ejay sample/loop based product for a long time as a hobby and a way to relax inbetween writing essays at university...shameless barefaced promotion but some of the tunes can be found by clicking on the mp3unsigned link at the bottom of this post..
..perhaps there are other members who can provide links to any music they may have on-line???
..AoO...

Badmail (inclination?), you certainly are a one man band. I've dabbled with the trumpet and cornet for a few years in elementary and junior high. Though I love music I haven't picked up any other instruments over the years. If I were to choose I'd go with the bass guitar.

@ Balaam. The Kazoo... Seems like the last time I saw or heard one of those was when my favorite musician was Raffi.

I used to use Cubase a lot, but I've been using Magix Studio 7 of late.

Keyboard/synth (also I had a horn synth but it's broken )
But I'd rather arrange/compose than play. I've done a few background music things for the theatre, the most interesting maybe doing a score for Antigone, trying to emulate what Greek instruments would have sounded like.
