Topic: Cyrus the Movie Posted: 15-Aug-2004 at 11:40 |
Hello Everyone!
It seems like forever now since the funding started for the movie: Cyrus? And Ive been waiting patiently...
The chahaya group claims that the screenplay is fully developed, and apparently there is a cast list (wish list).
What are they waiting for? Are they waiting for Alexander movie to be done and out in the theatres?

I know! not only did they screw up the story but their looking to screw up the actors too. I mean the possiblity of Jude Law playing as Cyrus!! First he is way too feminine to play the mighty Cyrus. Also, even if you were to color his hair and give him colored contacts, his face still wouldn't look Persian, just look at my avatar, does Jude Law's face look like that!
Sean Connery, while not my ideal, is much better.

Well they are putting black people in the movie, though I am not racist I find this inaccurate and showing it as a band of stragglers and Medes as cruel etc The original is just as juicy then this movie idea

Ah Bs. if we're gonna have blacks playing Persians we might as well call in Oliver Stone to direct the damn thing. I mean wtf. I am not racist, but we are not black. I respect black culture, but physically they look different, darker skin, frizzier hair, flatter, wider, and shorter nose, etc.
This is just some western propaganda, they did the same thing in Alexander the movie.

Well, it may be viewed more than one way. It may be seen as sheer "creativity" on their part. As "artists" they view their craft as not being bound by any rules. They want their project to be their own and while based on an original story, their "spin" on it confirms that they used their imagination in creating something original.

Especially in the Middle east and positions of power. Did anyone ever watch Hercules? or Xena? notice they had blacks and the Queen and leaders of Summeria were black? Or Egyptian being played as black? all this inaccuraciies are bad, how about a black King Arthur? or Hamlet? or Black ceasar, or Alexander? how about that!

Its common for some black actor to be cast as Othello, but some African
theatrical actor has done Hamelt and/or Mcbeth. Can't renember who.
Oh, and of course, shakespear production companies where there are
noticable shortages of Scots/Danes/Italians etc, say, oh like in
Africa, do their own versions with their own people all the time.

I agree since in the play he is a moor, when potraying national figures of a country then you must be more sensitive... ie not just persians but the bible and Torah talks greatly of Cyrus and this movie destroys his image.

But what is a moor?
In English moor and black were merged into one with the notion of the
Blackamoor, but in continental cultural views, the moor was just a
muslim, he could look like anything, filipino even (moro gulf anyone).
Anyways, anyone who expects Hollywood to do history seriously needs to
take their head out of their arse, its never done that. Its called
entertainment for reason.

Go for it.
I doubt a boycott by Iranians would affect Hollywood much.
Btw, that example is a good idea, artisticly speaking, and it wouldn't
suprise me if its already been done on a theatrical level.

We can complain and winje but don't think anything will come of that.

Just as with Stone's Alexander,
I have my doubts about the Hollywood treatment of historical figures
and events, creative license or not. I think a film about the
rise of Achaemenid Persia under Cyrus would make for a brilliant family
film illustrating some of the good and bad in such a person.
Hollywood "PC" tends to obssess with whether their subject was a
sensitive New Age boy or having their favorite actress run naked around
a set with a dagger in hand.
That being said, I'm pretty sure there are some actors and actresses
in Hollywood right now who'd be a better fit to the roles of Cyrus and
those around him than the usual suspects who get pulled up...
(Edit: "actress" with two r's...sugar high from morning coffee just became a crash...)
