The church of Saint Stephanos is the most magnificent church of Iran which has been built inside a large castle with seven high towers for protecting it, the church's architectural style is a mixture of Urartian, Parthian, Greek, and Roman styles that came to be known as Armenian subsequent to the construction of the fantastic structures of Echmiadzin, Thaddeus, Akhtamar, and indeed Stephanos.
And the church of Saint Thaddeus is the holiest church of Iran, according to Armenian legend, the Apostle Thaddeus (generally identified as St. Jude) reached here about 66 AD and built the worlds first church, according to the same legend, he and another disciple, Simon the Zealot, were later martyred and buried in the site of Irans first church.
On the feast day of St. Thaddeus (19 June), Armenian pilgrims from all over the world camp here for three days to attend the ceremonies.
