Hahaha. That's so cute. You guys have the same rivalry as Sarajevo and
Tuzla. They even put out tourism brochures that began, "Many tourists
believe Sarajevo is the jewel of Yugoslavia and the most beautiful city
in Bosnia to visit. We disagree."

ah well It is not a rivalry but unawareness of people of Ankara![](smileys/smiley36.gif)
They should come and live at istanbul one or two year, than mostly they will not return ankara(like most people who came istanbul)
I think a lot poet talk about Istanbul, Yahya Kemal Beyatl, Necip Fazlk Ksakrek and others.
For dirty I agree![](smileys/smiley19.gif)

Once I stayed in Istanbul for a month... No, it's definitely not for me.
The weather is too hot, the traffic is too heavy...

ankara sounds like our capital in nowhere = canberra,
Istanbul sounds like our only real and internationally known city = sydney

Istanbul is the best place in Turkey for a tourist. I never compared Ankara with Istanbul in that way.
Ankara, along with a few other cities, is more planned and neat than Istanbul. Foreigners are not aware of this fact.

Perhaps I should visit Istanbul sometime. Are they friendly to tourists?

Just don't say a word about Hagia Sophia, you will be safe.
Don't go shopping without a guide, they may overcharge you.

I'd probably take your advice on that, I'm thinking some of my ideas probably would not be liked to well over there.

This is the first place I would go see if I were to visit Turkey. It would be fun to sit in this once great church and just imagine what it was like in the time of the Byzantine Empire-Constantinople!!
who sings that song Istanbul-Constantinople- Istanbul- Constantinople???
As you can see I do not know the words to the song.
The Agia Sophia (Church of the Holy Wisdom)
It still adds great beauty to the modern Turkish skyline!! 15 million- wow!!

Historical Istanbul/Constantinople (the city)
I would love to see the walls of Theodosius someday!
Land Walls
Land walls which were built by the Anthemius, the prefect of the Eastern Empire during the reign of Emperor Theodosius II (408-450) were destroyed in 447 by a strong earthquake that ruined nearly 57 towers and part of the walls just before the attack of Attila and his hordes. New Prefect of the city, Constantine, managed to repair the walls in very short time and added a moat and outer defense walls which helped to stop Attila the Hun who turned his armies towards west after the failure.
Theodosius walls which consist of a moat and three successive walls with 6.5 kilometers length protected the city nearly 1000 years from the attacks of Arabs, Russians, Turks and many other tribes and nations. The walls was one of the major matters protecting the city which held nearly 2/3 of al the richness of the Orient.
In 1985 Istanbul was included in the world Heritage List and a project to restore the city walls and gates was launched by the Istanbul Municipality.

Istanbul's view at night from a plane is far more impressive than that.
