Proto - Altaic: *aŋat
Meaning: of duck
Old Turkic: aŋ(q)ut
Modern Turkic: aŋit, aŋqut, aŋq
Tungus-Manchu: andi
Japanese: anti
Comments: Mongolian -r here requires an explanation: it is most probably a result of reinterpreting the original *aŋgid as a plural form and rebuilding a new singular *aŋgir (*n? - *n? etc.). The word is widely spread in Siberian languages.

Proto - Altaic: epa
Meaning: mother, elder sister, aunt
Turkic: apa
Mongolian: ebej
Tungus-Manchu: ebke
Japanese: papa
Comments: One of the rather widely spread nursery kinship words. Front row variants (Turkish eve, Kazak ebej, Yakut, Dolgan ebe etc., are recent and may have a Mongolian origin.

Proto - Altaic: ap a
Meaning: father
Turkic: apa
Mongolian: ab(u)
Tungus-Manchu: apa
Korean: api
Comments: Also *bapa 'mother's father' (Turkmen). Voicing of -p- in many languages is probably due to expressive gemination.

Meaning: shaman, sorcery
Turkic: apach, apaq (1 bogy 2 figure set up to avert the evil eye 3 idol)

Tungus-Manchu: pap

Proto - Altaic: p iaru
Meaning: to spin, plait, wrap
Turkic: ar-
Old Turkic: arush, arqa
Modern Turkic: arqach, arqaq, arish, ura
Tungus-Manchu: por
Korean: poroki
Comments: Korean *porokí can be alternatively compared with Proto Turkic *bele- 'to swaddle'.
Also confused with *arka-. The front row variant *eril is peculiar: it may reflect a merger with a different root, reflected in Chuvash arla- `to spin', with possible parallels in Mongolian ere- `to wind, tie round'.

Proto - Altaic *āra
Meaning: small, scarce; recent
Turkic: ar
Modern Turkic: az (few, a little)
Tungus-Manchu: ara-
Korean: arai
Japanese: ara(ta)
Comments: Low tone in *ara(ta) is probably secondary (a result of some contamination?).

proto - Altaic: ar(e)
Meaning: to change, sell
Turkic: ar
Modern Turkic: armaqan (Qyrqiz: arna- 'to dedicate, design for')
Comments: Japanese *ur- could be a match, but it may also reflect Proto - Altaic uri.

Proto - Altaic: erka
Meaning: to wrap, tie
Old Turkic: arqa

Comments: eri 'rope for binding up the yurt with ritual purposes' suggesting that *-k- may be originally a suffix.
