Any suggestions for a book for late winter - February or March? - Anyone interested?

Did the Club die?

No, but it's in critical condition.

I will only be able to access a computer sparingly throughout the next few months so I was wondering if anyone wants to take over my "duties" for the Book Club.

Duties include, making sure people give suggestions and then deciding what book to read.

Anyone interested?

Economic Communist, Political Progressive, Social Conservative.

In the mid nineties the British travel writer W.D. retraces the journey of a Byzantine monk who in the 6th century travelled from lower Egypt to Constantinople and wrote down his experiences in "The Spiritual Meadow".
W.D. undertakes his journey the opposite way, starting from Mount Athos and tours most of the places John Moschos had desribed one and a half millenia earlier. W.D. visits the churches and monasteries of Christian minorities in the Middle East, and by telling their stories, gives an astonishing inside in the history of the entire region. Especially fascinating are his chapters on the background of the civil war in the Lebanon, or the Palestine conflict.Furthermore, it's an excellent contribution to the understanding of the relationship between Christianity and Islam. Highly topical and highly recommended.
