We just do not want to be left in a void of ignorance, do we?

the order had lost holdings in England in 1540 following the rise of protestantism, some states continued paying a financial contribution to the order such as the German Bailiwick of Brandenburg after became Lutheran but as for how protestants felt as a whole about it i don't know i would imagine they were no less worried about the expansion of the ottoman empire then catholic states, maybe they just saw it as a victory for malta not a victory for Christendom

By the way, if you are a supporter of 14C dating, then Malta has among its relics remains older than both Stonehenge and the Pyramids!

During the great Salt wars, Malta was a very important place, for both the catching of certain fish, and the availability of salt to preserve it!

It was also the home to pirates, of which the "order" was a practicer of!

The knights could be better described as privateers or employing privateers (legalized pirates). This practice was expanded on by the English and then passed to the United States which used privateers during the Revolutionary War.  I think a variation of the concept was used by the Confederacy as late as  the American Civil war.

It does have all those tropes that would make it into a nexcellent movie, but hey Hollywood does what it wants.
