Marie-Sgolne Royal was elected by members of the Socialist Party as their candidate for the 2007 French presidential election. Unfortunately, she lost her bid to be Frances first female head of government. According to an Ipsos poll, 48% of the women voted for Royal, meaning that 52% percent supported the victorious, Nicolas Sarkozy. As one of the main women's issue in France is physical abuse,IMO, I think Sarkozy received a larger womens vote because, last year, he supported the passage of a law giving the court authority to order abusive spouses and partners out of the house. In the past, and often with no resources of their own, abused women had no option but to leave their homes. Lets hope that Mr. Sarkozy keeps proving himself worthy of the womens vote.
