Miniatures? Well, Peruvian cultures used ceramics for many things. To make musical instruments, hydraulic toys, but also as the main way to communicate ideas. They made portraits (better, sculptures) in potery, for example. These Moche examples are from Peru.

That wasnt half bad. As interesting as it is, I think its my first time seeing a culture that express sexually in miniatures. Usually many cultures express it in paintings or carvings but this is the first for miniatures (for me atleast).

Oh man these pieces are rather disturbing. I was under the impression that distrubing pornography was mainly a modern invention, i even remember reading somehwere that even French Kissing was alien to many cultures when the European brought it with them and some even thought that it was too disgusting but these figurines make French Kissing look like just a slight pat on the cheek.

I went to an exhibition about Moche erotic art in the Museum of Archaeological arts in Santiago. There were adds that say "children should be accompanied by theirs tutors".
Now, the people there was seeing the pieces with an scolastic attitude, like where studying them, but they feel sort of nervous, like guilty of seen them.
weird.

Take a look to the Lord of Sipan museum in Peru. That's the older tomb of a ruler found in South America. Amazing.

The Moche culture is from Peru, during the 1 millenia A.D. The Moches created a wonderful culture that was, however, very bloody if compared others cultures of Peru. They also made large mud-bricks pyramids, superb handcrafts and jewerly and some of the most "shameful" collection of porn pottery that ever exist .
First, some pictures of the non-part of the Moche culture:
Form the Lord of Sipan tumb
A reconstruction:
The huaca del Sol, a Moche mud brick piramid.
Standard moche portrait vessel:
Now, for the erotic Moche art, you can visit these links . Only adults go, please:
This is from a serious museum in Peru:
And this is from a not so serious thread on the web
Or just search for "huaco erotico" and you will find many.
Or you believed I was to post the pictures in here?

The Moche sculptures might also have been phallic or fertility symbols. These sorts of symbols are common in the old pagan religions throughout the world. They had a religious connotation, denoting renewal of the crops, changing of seasons, fertility of the soil as well as the procreation of domestic animals, and of humans too. Eroticism (porn) had a religious aspect to these people, it was part of their ongoing circle of life. I think that in a disguised, subtle way it perhaps continues to exist in modern religions and in modern culture, though nowadays we tend to separate religion and eroticism, which the old pagan religions didn't.

Whoa, Nelly, we are getting slightly awry in applying modern conceptions of what constitutes pornography onto the past. After all a priapian skeleton is hardly an appeal to prurient interests. Art as symbolism of basic understandings is something entirely different than what is found in the darker corners of the WWW! Likewise, the attempt to transmit the use of animals in ancient art as examples of a propensity toward beastiology is as erroneous as classifying the Greeks as early proponents of NAMBLA cant!
