Welcome to WOMEN'S HISTORY

Throughout history, women have played a variety of roles:
mother, artist, agriculturalist, nurse, healer, midwife, judge, priestess, weaver, queen, leader, prostitute, merchant, laborer, warrior, holy woman, and more.

For women, history is both familiar and distantly abstract. The universal roles of mother and homemaker have firmly anchored us in our past, in the past of every woman, as well as enabled us to constitute a fundamental role in the passage of time. Our stories are, in reality, not all that different from those of our fathers, our husbands, and our sons - but instead of history, they are her story.

Regardless of their social and political status and their individual culture's values, women everywhere have led active lives. They have worked to bear and raise children, to produce food, contribute to the household and social economy, to participate in the decision making of their society, and to be major practitioners of spiritual rites. The contributions of women throughout history continue to have an impact on women's lives today.

It is important to recognize that individual women within any culture differ vastly from one another. All people are shaped by a variety of cultural elements--class, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, and other forces such as education or geographic location.

So our stories are told from different perspectives - different from each other, and different from our men. As we live our daily lives differently than men, so we remember and pass on stories significant in ways many male historians fail to notice.

So women - whatever your background, whatever your story - it is time to come together. An entire history of women and women's contributions to history in general is just waiting to be shared, and this is your place to share it. Welcome!

- Morticia and Mila

    Congratulations and good luck.

     Oh,  one ?-      If a man makes a statement and no woman hears him, is he still wrong?

Thank you again, everyone. I ask that while we're getting this forum going, please - if you have something to say, say it. Participate in threads as little or as much as you want - it will help get things anchored.

Also, we don't want this to be a place just for women. This forum is mostly men and will always be mostly men, and while I hope this woman has high female participation it simply won't work if our men-folk have nothing to contribute, debate, discuss.

Why don't we have a section named "his story", you feminists

Other than this joke, I'd like to congratulate Mila and Morticia, for adding a different ambience to the forum.

We gave up your happiness
Your hope would be enough;
we couldn't find neither;
we made up sorrows for ourselves;
we couldn't be consoled;
