On March 27, the last women who served in the US navy during WW I has died at the age of 109.

Charlotte Winters served in the national reserve, one of the first women to enlist to the service when this became possible in 1917. At the peak, 10,000 women enlisted during the war, mostly in secretarial and clerical positions at home bases, and also in defence companies and hospitals. Winters continued to work for the navy until 1953.

Women hold their councils of war in kitchens: the knives are there, and the cups of coffee, and the towels to dry the tears.

Well, she took part in the war effort actively - though wasn't in the front line, so I'm not too sure. Either way, she was blessed to live to such a ripe age, and I hope she had a good life. Smile
