Don't know , whether this is a very intellectual discussion but...

Just now i found this definition of the phrase Banana Republic at Wiki:

For many young Americans the term banana republic is associated with a clothing line however this term is generally used to describe the conditions of dependence and corruption in small Central American countries due to the business dealings of American Banana Companies.

A clothing line ?

And Che Cuevarra, printed on many T-Shirts today, was a great TV- Entertainer ?

For all those , who don't know, that there are banana republics beside their war-drobe , i recommend this board-game:

Yes. A banana republic (pais bananero in Spanish), is a corrupt country dominated by the interests U.S. companies, and dependent in a single product: specially bananas. And indeed, it is associated with Central America and with the U.S. fruit companies.

Most of the fight of the guerrillas of the Cold War was against the dictators of those banana Republics. The case of Somoza is the paradygm of a dictator of a Banana Republic.
