My last trip to Hungary was in 1997. I had a chance to visit the utmost Turkish frontier in Europa the Estergon/Esztergom. I passed along nice and sympatic Hungarian towns on my way to Estergon. It was snowing. The River Danube was streaming on the right side of the road. The panorama was shivery. After an hour drive, as soon as arriving Estergon, I climbed to the castle. As I stand on the tower of the castle, I fell in a strange feeling as if I have been on guard with the spirits of my ancestors, the Janissaries. I read few verses from the Holy Koran dedicated to spirits of all martyrs. Alas! The destiny of my ancestors struct me too. It was time turn back to Budapest. I woke up from a deep sleep. I drove to Budapest, this time not like a soldier of a defeated army, but as a noble and proud Turk.

Kinyílik Esztergom fölött
a vérpiros virág,
bizsergő illat hömpölyög
a tetőtéren át,
Jézus bíbor seb, fényözön,
dallam és szakadék,
sugárzásába öltözöm,
szívem bicsaklik, ég.
Tűzláng vagy tűzpiros szirom,
remény vagy rejtelem,
árnyéka táncol arcomon –
árnyékod, Istenem!
Ki téged áhít, tűzben áll,
kiontja önmagát –
halálom percét tudja már
a vérpiros virág.
