The following year (93) she was in a horrific accident that left her critically injured and 30% of her body burned.  She was pregnant at the time and gave birth to her daughter prematurely in hospital while fighting for her life, but her daughter did not survive.  Physically & psychologically debilitated, she hung up her runners.

After prolonged physical/psychological rehabilitation, repeated high-elastic skin grafting, and an incredible will to overcome, she defied her odds and (the following year) made her way back to the track, won a silver medal in the Central America Games, gold medal at the 1995 IAAF World Championships, again in 1997, silver at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, and other international successes.

What a fascinating story, Hellios! That's a lot of obstacles to overcome and she did it.

So sad about her losing her baby.

I didn't pay much attention the first time I heard about her.

Ana continues to inspire people & devotes herself to boosting the self-esteem of girls.

The boys don't seem to care much. LOL
The little girl seems interested!
It's at a school in the United States - the gent is a translator.
From what I hear & read, Ana doesn't care, talk about, or know much about politics, and talks about courage & self-esteem, mostly to young girls.
