Malalai Joya, the outspoken 28 year old Afghan MP (who has survived 4 assassination attempts) has been suspended from Parliament for comparing warlords in power to donkeys in an interview she gave. She stated that her country’s parliament was like a “stable or zoo”.... “this is a word that fits - a cattle house is full of animals, like a cow giving milk, a donkey carrying something, a dog that’s loyal.” The warlords majority voted to suspend her, invoking Article 70 of the Parliament that forbids MPs from insulting one another. A statement was issued by warlord Yunus Qanooni saying that Joya’s case will go to court. She is so brave and has publicly stated, “Maybe one day they will kill me. But I will never be afraid.” Hail Malalai!!!!!

Well, I must say calling her fellow MPs donkeys was not too smart... I doubt a politician would get away with that anywhere...
But to suspend her is a bit much... I bet they had been waiting for just the excuse to do so... -------------

Afghanistan is getting civilised! Just got suspended? back in the day, she would have been strung up from a lampost for such comments.

Correct, Sparten, it's a miracle she still lives. But don't forget that she's survived four assassination attempts. It may be that one day they will succeed and kill her, but, for now, she's making herself heard loud and clear to the world. This is by far one of the bravest women I've heard of in the modern day world, and she's so very young. I see her making a huge impact on women's issues in her country.
