Scientists Measure Dream Content for the First Time: Dreams Activate the Brain in a Similar Way to Real Actions
"The ability to dream is a fascinating aspect of the human mind. However, how the images and emotions that we experience so intensively when we dream form in our heads remains a mystery. Up to now it has not been possible to measure dream content. Max Planck scientists working with colleagues from the Charité hospital in Berlin have now succeeded, for the first time, in analysing the activity of the brain during dreaming....."

Simple Nerve Cells Regulate Swimming Depth of Marine Plankton
" As planktonic organisms the larvae of the marine annelid Platynereis swim freely in the open water. They move by activity of their cilia, thousands of tiny hair-like structures forming a band along the larval body and beating coordinately. With changing environmental conditions the larvae swim upward and downward to their appropriate water depth. Scientists of the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in Tübingen, Germany have now identified some signalling substances in the larval nervous system regulating swimming depth of the larvae. These substances influence the ciliary beating and thus hold the larvae in the preferred water depth. The scientists discovered a very simple circuitry of nerve cells underlying this regulation, reflecting an early evolutionary state of the nervous system...."

I know now:Why communication with some human units do not work at all!?!Rational behavior in human bodies comes with aging but... "In a bacterial population, aging and rejuvenation goes on
simultaneously, so depending on how you measure it, you can be misled
to believe that there is no aging." http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/10/111027150207.htm

Gene mapping reveals mammalian evolution
"Mapping the entire set of genes in mammal tissues in 10 species has disclosed for the first time the subtle ways evolution plays out in mammals. For instance, researchers found the platypus, which has an active foraging behaviour, has a gene important for exploratory behaviour that’s strongly expressed in the brain. The research provides a basis for understanding organ function in different species that was previously unavailable. This could help future research explain species-relevant gene adaptations....." http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/news/4880/gene-mapping-reveals-mammalian-evolution

Brain gene activity changes through life
"Human brains all work pretty much the same and use roughly the same genes in the same way to build and maintain the infrastructure that makes people who they are, two new studies show. And by charting the brain’s genetic activity from before birth to old age, the studies reveal that the brain continually remodels itself in predictable ways throughout life. In addition to uncovering details of how the brain grows and ages, the results may help scientists better understand what goes awry in brain disorders such as schizophrenia and autism....." http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/335629/title/Brain_gene_activity_changes_through_life

Gamblers ‘unlikely to seek help’
"People with gambling problems are unlikely to identify as having a problem or to seek help unless they have experienced serious impacts or harms, according to new research released today.
Dr Tanya Davidson the Director of the Centre for Gambling Research at The Australian National University is one of the authors of two new reports profiling help-seeking and problem gambling in the ACT.
She said that the first report found that less than 10 per cent of all people reporting problem gambling symptoms – and only 21 per cent of those with the most severe gambling problems – had ever accessed support services...."

New ‘albino’ spider found
"A new species of spider has been found near Northam—just by chance.
The spider has been identified by the WA Museum as a new species of trap door spider from the Idiopidae family.
Nicknamed the albino trapdoor spider, it was spotted by Grass Valley resident John Cornish on his back veranda in July.
The white-headed, black and brown-legged spider about the size of a 50-cent piece was captured in a jar and handed to the Northam office of the Department of Environment and Conservation.
Wheatbelt National Resource Management spider expert Mick Davis realised it was potentially a new species...."
